Letter to The Brussels Mayor Thielemans
15August 2007
Dear Mayor Thielemans,
Regarding your decision to ban the “Stop Islamisation Of Europe” demonstration on 11th September outside the European Parliament in Brussels, I would like to remind you that there are many communities, other than Muslims, who have settled in Europe.
Many of these communities have chosen Europe for their home because of its tolerance, democracy and free speech.
Some of these have had to flee Islamic persecution.
Whatever the reason these people certainly do not wish to see Islamic culture, practices and doctrines being imposed upon them or placed above Western values, in other words they do not wish to see Sharia Law or Islamisation in any form taking hold in Europe.
National American Coptic assembly usa therefore, dismayed that you have unilaterally decided to ban the demonstration which has declared itself to be peaceful, non-racist and pro-democracy, merely to protect the sensitivities of, but one section, of the Brussels population, namely Muslims.
This goes against the principles of the European Union, which has its Parliament in the city where you are Mayor and in fact, reveals that you are yourself culpable in the Islamisation of Europe, the very reason why the demonstration was organised in the first place.
N A C A would like to remind you that your duties and responsibilities encompass the needs and sensitivities of all the communities of Brussels and not just those you choose to side with.
Your action exposes both your favouritism towards the Muslim community and double standards unworthy of your important office.
In a mature democracy N A C A astounded that you ban a demonstration because Muslims might become violent towards the demonstrators expressing their democratic rights.
It would have been far better if you had advised your Muslim constituents to either ignore the demonstration or better still to hold a peaceful counter demonstration on the 11th, or at some other time.
If you fear violence from your Muslim citizens you would be far better employed in educating them as to Western values the rest of us enjoy and uphold.
The national american Coptic assembly USA, urge you to reverse your decision and to allow the Stop Islamisation of Europe demonstration.
YOURS truly
